Join us as the University of Mobile Department of Visual and Graphic Arts and AIGA Mobile present an Artist Talk by Richard B. Doubleday a designer, researcher, associate professor at LSU School of Art, and Fullbright Fellow. The talk will be held Thursday, February 22, at 6pm with a reception to follow. This talk is free and open to the public.
Doubleday's posters will be on display through the month of February at the University of Mobile's Martin Hall Gallery along with several created by his Chinese colleague Jiang Hua. They can be viewed Monday–Friday, 8am-4:30pm.
About Richard B. Doubleday:
Richard B. Doubleday is an associate professor in the Area of Graphic Design at Louisiana State University’s School of Art. He holds a 2017-18 Fulbright Fellowship where he is a researcher at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. He is a contributing author of Dialectic, A scholarly journal of thought leadership, education and practice in the discipline of visual communication design (Ann Arbor, MI, USA: Michigan publishing, 2017) and Graphic: 500 Designs that Matter (London, UK: Phaidon Press, 2017). Richard has been published extensively in leading graphic design journals.
About Jiang Hua:
Jiang Hua was born in Zhoushan China 1973, studied at the Design School of Wuxi University of Light Industry in 1992-1996. From 1996, he taught graphic design in the Communications and Arts Faculty of Ningbo University for 10 years. He founded his studio in 1998, and began to be absorbed in the study of Chinese typography. Jiang Hua and his partner Pan Qin are the Founders and Curators of Ningbo International Poster Biennial. It has been held 4 times with great success since 1999 while at the meantime being dedicated to the teaching of design at Ningbo University. Since last year, he has begun to study and hold lectures in Central Academy of Fine Arts (Beijing) as a doctorate student.
The design awards he received include Judge Prize and Hope Prize in the 1st Chinese International Graphic Design Competition, Silver Prize in Art & Design Exhibition of the 9th Chinese National Art Exhibition, Silver Prize in the 9th International Triennial of Environment Posters in Zilina Slovakia, Silver Prize in Shenzhen Design 2003 Show, Etc.
Jiang Hua's works have been featured and published in many forms of publications such as IDEA, Typotecture, Graphis, Etapes etc. He has also seen his works exhibited in such poster biennials/triennials as from Ningbo, Hangzhou, Hongkong, Toyama, Seoul, Warsaw, Rzeszow, Brno, Trnava, Kharkov, Moscow, Chaumont, Essen, Mexico, Etc.
He became one of the youngest members of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) in 2006.
